A Mystery/Thriller, 1996 by Penguin, 326 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Extremely short. There’s little in the way of side stories or extras here, meaning this one is over as fast as it began. The audiobook clocks in at 3 hours long, for reference.
- I continue to be unsure of Morelli. Sometimes he’s great, taking care of Stephanie in his own way and being cool with her family. Other times he borders on pushy and gross, reminding you of that first encounter Stephanie told us about.
- Unrealistic escalation from the villain. No spoilers but, even more than the first one, this one felt incredibly unrealistic.
What I Did Like:
- Other cases. Stephanie takes on lots of bounties, which is realistic. I like that angle.
- The nostalgic feel of the story hits and matches the time period it was written in. Answering machines, old school cell phones, and more all add to that fun.
- Stephanie continues to be relatable. She isn’t a stone cold killer or the best at her job. She’s a bounty hunter for the money and that’s her most endearing quality.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of the first one, obviously.
- If you’re tired of detectives who run circles around everyone and only handle one case at a time, you might enjoy this series as a refreshing change.
