A Mystery/Thriller, 2026 by Viking, 496 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- A reminder for this series: Cal Hooper is retired in Ireland. The story matches the slow pace of the small town, taking time to enjoy the people and the scenery. Come ready for slow pace.
- The trouble in paradise part of this storyline with Cal and Lena was, as intended, hard to read. I felt lost and alone right alone with them.
- The ending of this one was gut wrenching. No spoilers but oof.
What I Did Like:
- The guys at the pub continue to be the best. It’s nice to have this opportunity to laugh with characters in a serious book. Excellent, as always.
- Tana French is a beautiful writer. She writes descriptions of places and people in a seamless way. It’s not taking you away from the story while you get the description, but it’s beautiful and poetic in the best way.
- Thinking of where this series started and then sitting with that beautiful final scene was perfect. The growth, the characters, the life that Cal has built … it is all wonderful. You’ll feel like you’ve made friends during the series.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of the series, obviously.
- If you’re a fan of small town stories and mysteries, this is a must read.
