What I Didn’t Like:
- Content Warning: abortion, underage pregnancy, rape
- The pacing is not what I was expecting. You spend a lot of time building up the anticipation for this case. You are over 200 pages into the book before jury selection even begins.
- Nova’s mother is AWFUL. While I know that intentional, it was really hard to read. She’s my least favorite kind of character and she just grated on my nerves.
- I would’ve liked more resolution on some of the issues the book raised. While some things were tied up, others were left open or discarded altogether.
What I Did Like:
- I love Judge Stone’s voice right away. Within the first chapter of meeting her, I liked her voice and the way she treats people.
- The book doesn’t shy away from any of the hot button topics and I love that. These things are real issues that we deal with and this book confronts them head on.
- The court drama aspect was thrilling and compelling. It moved more quickly than usual for this genre but that’s because it doesn’t linger. Drops the facts and moves on. I can appreciate that!
Who Should Read This One:
- Courtroom thriller fans, this one is well done.
