A Mystery/Thriller, 2024 by Mariner Books, 174 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- The story is short, which may bother some people. I personally didn’t find this to be a bad thing.
- A few of the clues are a bit wonky or a stretch. No spoilers though.
- This series really makes the actual detectives seem inept. In the first ones there were excuses made that made some sense but in this one it’s just in your face.
What I Did Like:
- Same great sense of humor from the first two. This time it’s combined with short chapters and cute advent style clue cards. In fact the whole “Holiday Special” vibe was top tier.
- Once again, solid mystery. The reveal scene is always fun and well written. The clues make sense and the mystery is satisfying.
- Ernest is still a solid character. He’s developing from his introduction but staying true to his roots.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of the series, obviously. This is a great addition.
- If you like non detective mysteries and humor this is a great series. In fact I’d argue you could start with this one. It doesn’t spoil the other ones, introduces the character well, and is shorter so it’s less of a commitment.
