2026 Book Review: You With the Sad Eyes

by Christina Applegate

A Nonfiction, 2026 by Little Brown and Co, 304 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Content warning: child abuse, child neglect, drug abuse, and more. Be careful what you’re walking into and take care of you! Christina had a seriously traumatic childhood and she pulls no punches in this book. It’s tough to read at a lot of spots.
  • I always hate when famous people name drop in books. While there’s not much of it here, there is some. Also there’s talk of the money paid for her roles, which comes off as bragging and a bit out of touch.
  • Some of the jumps in timeline are a bit confusing. You go sort of back and forth through her history and sometimes that’s shocking.

What I Did Like:

  • Christina has a gift for storytelling. I listened to this one as an audiobook (read by the author) and it was captivating from start to finish. Even when we were getting into tough material, it felt as if we were hearing it for a purpose.
  • The messages here are clear and purposeful. Christina owns up to her choices, good or bad, and shares her outlook on life.
  • Fascinating look into the life of someone who spent decades in Hollywood.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Celebrity memoir fans, this is a good one.

My Rating: 3 Stars
