Note: This is the 6th book to feature Robert Langdon. You don’t necessarily need to read them all, you get what you need from this one. There are some mentions of previous books but no spoilers.
What I Didn’t Like:
- Some of the charm of this series has dulled a bit with this installment. It may be the arts and symbols took a backseat to other kinds of science.
- This book drags quite a bit at the end. This contains multiple layers and as each on is introduced it starts to feel like they tried to tackle too much with this one.
- The overall feel of this one is different. This almost felt like it belonged in a series about Katherine Solomon instead of being a Robert Langdon book. Of course the symbolist is featured but it just didn’t have the same vibe.
What I Did Like:
- The connections to art and other priceless images in these stories will always be the best part. Doing the research to see them with new eyes is always fascinating.
- Dan Brown’s research is always well done. The fact that he bases so much of his stories on what is happening or what is possible makes them even more shocking. This one is no different.
- Robert Langdon continues to be a fun character to accompany through a story. He’s smart, crafty, and seemingly unafraid to take risks.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of books that feature and highlight real science will especially enjoy this one.
