Note: This is the 3rd book in a series. They are interconnected stand alone stories. Technically, you could read this one alone but you’d get spoilers for the relationships that were previously featured.
What I Didn’t Like:
- A female killer who gets in over her head and needs help from a Kane brother … haven’t we done that before? A lot of this one starts to feel redundant and a bit unbelievable when you take it as a series. The fact that this many people who like death and killing all come together is a bit of a stretch, honestly.
- I could see some readers struggling with the timeline of this trilogy, as they were not necessarily released in chronological order. There’s some backtracking and callbacks to events from the previous two books here.
- The random epilogue chapter introducing another character irked me, especially since we don’t seem to have more books from her.
What I Did Like:
- Rose is an excellent character. We sensed that from what little we’ve had of her through this series but this book just confirms it. She’s strong willed and unapologetic, two of my favorite traits!
- The romance on this one is the main storyline. Is there death? Yes. Trouble? Yes. But this time around the romance is front and center. It’s well written and believable.
- The check-ins with the old storylines works. It’s more believable to imagine that these were all happening at the same time instead of one after another. Showing where this fit in the old storylines makes sense and works.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of the series, obviously. This brings the stories full circle.
- Dark romance fans. It’s spicy, includes murder and danger, and has a good romance line.
My Rating: 3 Stars
- This one is more romance and less thriller than the previous. Check the content warnings and enjoy.
