2026 Book Review: Night Watcher

by Daphne Woolsoncroft

A Mystery/Thriller, 2025 by Grand Central Publishing, 336 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Both the solution and the red herring were pretty obvious. Not a huge issue but definitely worth noting.
  • I wanted more depth from the characters. Everyone here felt superficial and the story steered away from any big emotional scenes.
  • There’s a lot of unanswered questions. Some of them are glossed over by the detective in his final chapter but I wanted more.

What I Did Like:

  • The premise is great! A true crime podcaster catches evidence of a possible crime over the air? Fascinating.
  • The tension in the beginning is well done. The way you learn information about her past adds to it and keeps you turning pages.
  • There is a beat where you also suspect the red herring. That’s how it should be!

Who Should Read This One:

  • Fans of true crime podcasts may be drawn to this one more than others. While it’s not true crime it draws inspiration from that genre.

My Rating: 3 Stars
