2026 Book Review: Love Letters to a Serial Killer

by Tasha Coryell

A Mystery/Thriller, 2024 by Berkley, 320 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • The main character’s obsession with this serial killer is, in a word, infuriating. You want to scream at her to open her eyes and stop acting like an idiot. From early in the book, she’s very narrowed focused and it’s really hard to stick with her on that.
  • The focus here being on the relationship and how the main character feels about it drains your energy and exhausts you. It makes the whole opening of this book drag uselessly.
  • The twist was pretty obvious. Once I thought of it every single clue was like a blinking red sign pointing at it.

What I Did Like:

  • Painting a character who slides along the slippery slope that leads to an obsession with a serial killer is a tough challenge but the author here manages to do it. The main character is realistic and you watch her slide down that slope in a way that makes sense.
  • This one sort of puts the obsession with serial killers under a microscope in a real way. There’s a message here and it’s pretty timely.
  • There’s a reliability to Hannah feeling unsatisfied by her life even if we can’t relate to how she approaches that. It makes for an interesting knife’s edge when you walk with her.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Readers who wonder how “those girls” obsessed with serial killers excuse their behaviors.

My Rating: 2 Stars

  • Hannah was too much for me to handle and that ending made me literally roll my eyes. For me, the MC was a problem but the predictable storyline was a bigger problem.
