Note: This is a prequel for a series although I am reading it last to honor publication order. If you choose to read it first, you’ll be introduced to a lot of concepts that are not explained. If you read it last, it only gives a glimpse into a scene or two hinted at through the series
What I Didn’t Like:
- I didn’t feel like I needed a prequel when I finished the original 5 books. This doesn’t really offer anything new, just revisits a few things. Not sure how necessary it was.
- Cody doesn’t come off well in this prequel. Which is unfortunate because I always liked him in the series.
- Geri is back to her whiny self-absorbed self, like when we met her. In the first book I forgave it because I knew she’d grow. But now that you’ve seen mature Geri, this grated on my nerves.
What I Did Like:
- You did always wonder what happened with Cody and this does give a bit more context.
- There are some lines that hint at what’s coming in the series. Fun for people who have read it!
- The characters are honored here and remain faithful to their arcs.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of the series who want a bit more.
My Rating: 3 Stars
- Not a bad novella, just not required series reading.
